BACKGROUND:
In the UK, open heathland is now only about 16% of the area that existed in 1800, meaning the loss of 150,000 hectares over the last two hundred years. It is believed that the UK has one-fifth of the world's total heathland and despite images of heathland being familiar, it is a habitat that is rarer than a rainforest.
In Bedfordshire, we are fortunate to have some beautiful areas of open Heathland which are being rejuvenated and restored. Over the last six years, I’ve been regularly visiting three of the local heathlands, documenting them throughout the seasons.
Featuring 36 colour images from three areas of local heathland through the seasons, Heathland | Rejuvenation covers my exploration of three heathlands in Bedfordshire over the last 6 years.
